Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation (BUSS1011)
The
assessment shall consist of four parts:
Part I. Proposal (to be
submitted in Week 4 through Moodle), 10 marks
Part II. The entrepreneurial profile
of an Omani entrepreneur and his contribution to society, 60 marks
Part
III. Support Systems / Obligatory Requirements, 10 marks
Part
IV. The student’s personal view and appreciation of innovation and
entrepreneurship, 20 marks
Part
1. Proposal details are as follows. Please see template as attached in this
assessment (10 marks)
a) Brief background of
the entrepreneur and his/ her company (in maximum of 2 paragraphs).
b) The plan of action as
regard to collection of data (the primary and secondary sources of data).
c) The timeline (e.g.
list of activities with projection of completion, from approval of the
entrepreneur to submission of assessment).
d) References, at least
5, in C.U. Harvard References style. References should be a combination of
journals, websites and books.
Part
II. The Profile of an Omani Entrepreneur and His Contributions to Society. (60 marks)
The students are expected to create a
profile of an Omani entrepreneur by detailing his /her entrepreneurial characteristics
/ competencies and his / her contributions to society and the economy. In
particular, the students should write the following:
1. Introduction. This
contains a discussion of who the entrepreneur is and his / her organization.
This discusses in concrete terms the contribution of entrepreneur and his
enterprise to the society and economy of Oman. (300
words) ( 6 marks)
The profiling discussions should be
based on PEC (personal entrepreneurial competency) results of the entrepreneur.
Graph should be inserted in the final discussions. Discussions should highlight
as well the strengths and weaknesses of the entrepreneur.
(Please note that interview transcript
and questionnaire should be included as appendices in the final submission).
Part
III. Support Systems / Obligatory Requirements: (10
marks)
a. Evaluate the Support
Systems available in Oman- Assess the Systems on:
1. Kind of ventures they support;
2. Amount of Money they provide;
3. Other Support Services (e.g.
advices, helping with legal formalities. Training, etc.)
b. Discuss the
Obligatory requirements- Identify and briefly discuss exactly what legal
formalities must be undertaken to set up a new venture
Part
III. The Student’s Personal View and Appreciation of Innovation and
Entrepreneurship
(20
Marks)
Individually,
the student is expected to:-
1. Write his / her
personal entrepreneurial profile of his/her citing, in clear terms, his/her
entrepreneurial strengths and weaknesses. The personal profiling shall be done
based on personal entrepreneurial competency (PEC) scoring sheet. As well, the
student should narrate his/her personal exposures and experiences about
business and his/her past and/or present engagements in creative and innovative
undertakings. This should include a discussion on how his/her
personal exposure and experiences has affected his/her appreciation of
innovation and entrepreneurship.
