Task :

Select a company from Oman (either from the Private/Public sector) and write a report on its occupational health and safety practices covering the following:

1. A discussion on occupational health and safety and its importance in today’s context.

2. A critical discussion on the health and safety policies, procedures and its implication in business.

3. Choosing a company (Oman Based) of your choice, critically evaluate the Health and safety practices of the firm. You may refer Omani Labour Law and International Labour Organization (ILO) standards to benchmark the practices. You may also provide examples to benchmarks and establish arguments in your discussion.

ASSIGNMENT STRUCTURE

Following is the suggested structure/framework. The student may opt to change the structure/framework based on their approaches.

1.     Introduction:

Introduction should focus on the need and importance of the task (in this case, it should be the focus of your assignment tasks). The significance of the tasks should be discussed, emphasising the scope of the task. The introduction should be simple and clear. The readers should be able to understand the premises on which the assignment is structured. Should you want to provide definition (in fact, not required), make sure that you provide one good definition. (Tips: A good introduction could be written after the completion of the tasks)

2.     Main body:

This section can be sub-divided in to many sections (sub-headings). A general suggestions is that the sub-heading should be based on the tasks provided. The sub-headings could be (need not necessarily be the same) the importance of Health and Safety policies in today’s context and implications in business, hence forth... the discussion for the first task should be largely based on extensive literature searches (focus more on research reviews); examples from the corporate world, the current trends, contemporary issues etc. Bring in more examples to argue and support your claims.The second and third task should also critically evaluate the chosen organisation’s Health and safety procedures and practices by referring to Omani Labour Law and ILO H&S standards.  Evaluate the strengths and weakness, study the gaps, and provide recommendations based on the findings.

Note: The recommendations should be based on the findings.

Conclusion –A conclusion based on your analysis. Restrict your conclusion to 7/8 lines.Ensure that referencing has been consistently applied throughout all sections of your assignment.  As a gauge, there should be adequate Harvard Styled academic references and citations. Include charts / models/ diagrams to support your discussion. Please refer Student hand book sections 7.2.1 – 7.2.4 for more details.
