Task

Governmental reports and the recent UK Brexit electoral campaign banners state that the UK is showing ‘green shoots of growth’ and the UK economy is creeping out of recession. However the effects of the 2008 recession is still affecting many organisations. On a positive note Apple is boasting 2018 profits of over 53.3 billionand many other businesses are performing well and successfully implementing organisational change.
Adopting the role of an organisational development and change specialist, you have been recruited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, (CIPD) to investigate an organisation of your choice, assessing how it has responded to national / global pressures with specific reference to ‘Managing the People Issues’ and to make commercially viable recommendations to recruit, retain and motivate both prospective and current employees.
The CIPD has requested that your research and final report is to be completed by August in readiness to be tabled at the 2019 UK CIPD conference.

Assessment

The assessment of this assignment will cover all of the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

K1The historical and theoretical basis of organisation design and development and their context in terms of value and contribution to organisational life

K2 Available design options regarding organisational structures and relationships

K3 Processes and systems that need to be in place to maintain such structures and relationships, and evaluation of same

K 4 Methods and procedures of organisation development and review their strategic impact

Skills

S1 Critically evaluate the OD processes and models to implement successful change and organisational design
S2 Review and critique the OD process options to improve organisational design
S3 Critically reflect and evaluate learning processes when deciding OD processes for change

Guidance

The report, excluding appendices, should be not more than 3000 words in length.
For your guidance, it will consist of:

a)  An introduction in which you introduce the organisation that you are investigating, with a description of its activities, operations and the business environment in which it operates.

b)  A detailed methodology of the analytical approach you are taking, demonstrating a critical understanding of Organisational Development & Change (Managing people issues).

c)    A section on your findings includes a critical evaluation, detailing the organisational development and change used by the organisation to enhance the management of its employees.

d)   Conclusions and commercially viable recommendations.

e)    Throughout the report, you must integrate theory with practice, critically evaluating your findings..

f)  All sources must be cited correctly in accordance with the Harvard system of referencing.

This assignment is intended to give you an opportunity to show that you are capable of applying your knowledge of organisational development and change, not only in describing the issues faced by the organisation, but also in explaining them and justifying your proposed actions to improve them.
You are encouraged to make full use of the tutor team support.
An electronic copy and/or hard copy of the assignment must be submitted via JIRA. Only assessments submitted through JIRA will be marked. Any other submission including submission to your study centre in hard copy will be treated as a non-submission.
If your centre supports Turnitin©, a copy of your Turnitin© originality report must be submitted in conjunction with your assignment.
